Sun City Day Care Center

The children attending the Suryauday Day Care Center are the kids of migrant workers who are building a huge housing complex, called “Sun City”. About 800 migrant couples have been involved in the project and stay with their families in Pune. Many of them have left as soon as the major work was done but there are still about 200 families, living in a temporary settlement near the construction site – a  dangerous but evident playground for the children.

Because of the nomadic life style of the parents the kids are not able to attend a regular school. Many of them, especially girls, have to take care of their younger siblings. The main aim of the day care center is to give them child care. Nutrition, basic education, health care and recreation are provided by HOPE.

There are about 85 children, aged between 0-13 years, daily attending the Day Care Center, benefitting the care they get from HOPE and their staff members. More than 150 children have been prepared by HOPE and enrolled in Government regular school since the establishment of the center in July 2005.
